Tonight I was helping Talmage study geography. We were talking about how Mt. Everest is the highest mountain at 29,028 feet above sea level, but how Mauna Kea in Hawaii is the tallest mountain from the base of the sea floor at 33,476 feet. Talmage said, "Mom, I have a way to explain this. You stand next to the table--You're Mauna Kea. I'll stand on the table--I'm Mount Everest. I'm higher, but you're taller." I was stunned because I suddenly understood it so much better, myself! What a great explanation. Talmage is our guy who has to get all kinds of special help at school, but anyone who knows him for long always comments on how smart he is. It will be very fascinating to see what he does with his very unique intelligence.

Higher, Taller, Smarter

that is awesome tal. there are great things in store for you! i had to read that twice just to understand it, and you thought it up just like that!
Ditto. Way to go Tal!
That is awesome. It totally helped me understand it too.
That's so cool! What a good way to think of it.
So smart Tal!! Sarah! I was delighted to read your notes and I'm glad you found our blog. We are pretty pathetic bloggers. I have so enjoyed your blog this past year and I'm sorry I'm also terrible at leaving comments! I shall improve! We received your Christmas letter (thank you!) and it is so wonderful to still be able to keep in touch with you - you guy's have remained some of our most fondest of people we have ever met. It is heartwarming to see Haley in all of your CUTE boys. Happy New Year!
That is impressive.
As a mother of one who doesn't always fit the mold, I am chronically frustrated by our society's myopic view of intelligence. School only measures two or three attributes. Most of us have so much more to offer. Especially Tal!
Yeah, I really understood that. Good work, Tal!
That is so cool. I too had to read it a couple times just to understand it. what a little smarty pants!!
That's some good thinking, Tal. Smarty pants.
He should be a teacher. I totally got it that way. I hope you guys are doing good. Loves
That is amazing! It took me about a day of saying this over and over before it finally clicked!
