Beset with Doctoring.

This is what our counter looked like this morning. Three of our boys are on antibiotics!
Since November I have gone to the doctor at MINIMUM 4 times a week, usually about 6 visits a week. I'd already filled the minimum quota by Tuesday of this week. Physical Therapy for my knee on Monday, Tuesday I took Talmage and Trace to the Pediatrician for ear infections and Jack to the cardiologist for a heart check-up.
In November we all (but Clint) had the pink eye. I had it for 11 days!! I started calling my Dad in Mexico because I was worried I'd permanently damaged my cornea and we were totally quarantined because people are really squimish about vampire eyes. That was a good two weeks of isolation. Then we started in on the ear infections--all four boys got one, Talmage and Trace are starting on round two of those. Enter that lovely barfy flu that hit all six of us in turn. We managed to have a wonderful Christmas inspite of the fact that we were barfing between present openings. Cole even had Scarlet Fever (scary). He felt so awful he chose the huge penicilian shot in the behind over oral meds because they told him he'd be better in a couple of days instead of a week.
I told the pediatrician LAST week that I had goals of becoming a stranger to her. No such luck.
I remember noticing that our friends the Merrills, who have six kids, seemed to never make it to church as an entire family. I guess these are the joys of a family with many young children. It just goes around and around. I just tell myself to imagine how bad it would be if we were unhealthy people!

I feel your pain. In November we all got the flu. Then, in the beginning of December all my kids got strep throat, but not at the same time, mind you. No, it was a full month of one strep throat victim to another. I put Chelsea, Spencer and Bryce on antibiotics right before Christmas. Then, on Christmas Eve Spencer broke out in a terrible rash. The urgent care Dr. said it was an allergic reaction. Enter steriods. Then Bryce and Chelsea both come down with the same rash. Next urgent care doctor: not allergy, Fifth Disease (not good because I am pregnant.) As soon as we get that kicked, morning sickness. I hope to have my life back by March.

Isn't being a mom great fun?

WOW. The amazing thing is that we live right by you and you are such a happy family despite all this. This sounds like a big pain to keep being sick and going to the doctor. I would be completely overwhelmed. But you are just dealing with it. You are a good example. I would complain WAY more than you.

I know that this will be very irritaing to you Sarah, but the last time any of my children or myself was at a doctor's office was February 2004 for Brick's kindergarten shots and Ty's immunizations. Speaking of which, I need to get Ty (1st grade) his kindergarten shots. See, its really irresponsibility. The principal of our school last year said that I should get an award because all three kids had perfect attendance! (Not true this year however...too much pressure). Dallin asked me this last summer if he had a pediatrician yet and I said "No" but I could get one if he felt more comfortable and he said to get one because he wanted to stop being "careful"...I don't know what that means.

So sorry, Sarah. What a pain. We got the flu, too, just after Christmas, all six of us. Everyone threw up except Jeff, who just fainted (his first time). We got your calendar and love it. It's doing bulletin board duty, reminding us of everything we're supposed to do.

And in answer to your question: No, Sam only stayed home one day. But the penalty for staying home even one day is no electronics for a week.

oooh bummer. Scarlet Fever! I hope you are all feeling better soon! We're glad we got the barfs a few weeks before Christmas because I think we were the only family that didn't get them after the Christmas Eve party.

On an unrelated note, last night I dreamed I read a blog post about you going out and buying a motor home - there was a picture of you looking so regretful - and you only drove it as far as another dealership to sell it. So - don't buy a motor home! We miss you guys.

This is a sad, sad post. I really hate doctors, needles, medicine and all that. I was raised by a white witch so I don't even know what I'm doing when it comes to all that. I really feel for you and your family that you've had non-stop sickness. And I'll bet you went crazy over the two weeks of no social life. Andrew and I were sick for two weeks last winter and I started feeling like I needed a straight jacket and padded walls.
Also, thanks for always reading my blog and making thoughtful comments. You are one of the nicest blog readers I know.
While I was on your blog today I searched for the comments I've made in the past, and it looks as though I've never made any. Sorry about that.

That is so sad! What did you do to your knee?? Haven't heard anything about that yet. We have been so lucky as far antibiotics go considering we have 11 who could get sick. We do the flu thing when it hits, but as far as ear infections...maybe two or three times out of all of us? I think it is the size of the ear. We have had pink eye once too. We mostly just have a broken bone here or there (3), or a cut off finger tip...
Oh Yeah...there was this electrocution and appendix thingy, but at least the kids have been healthy :)

GET WELL SOON!!!
