Mother's Day 09

This was Clint's Mother's Day gift to me, tickets to see Topol in "Fiddler on the Roof". You just have to know me to know that this was one of the most amazing viewing experiences of my life. That movie is my favorite of all time. I know every second of that film. It was like coming full circle to see Topol performing it. It says a bit about my age in this world that the film was produced in 1971, the year after I was born, when Topol was in his 30s. Now he's 79! It reminded me a lot of watching my Grandma perform in her 70s, 80s and 90s and it reminded me a lot of my dad (in 9 more years). Topol still had that very rich, deep resonating speaking voice and great comic timing (he should after performing the role over 2,500 times) but his dancing was a bit more careful.

This Mothers' Day marks the first in which at least one of my children actually sang with the Primary--Thank you, Cole (and Tal, I'm sure if I was at your shoulder I could have heard you). Jack fulfilled the important responsibility of being THAT KID. You know, the one mugging and waving and bicep flexing and jumping, pulling faces and playing with the podium. Someone had to do it.

Tal gave a Mother's Day talk in Primary. I took it from a questionnaire he filled out for Valentines Day. Here's the Text:
I love when my Mom makes dinner.
I love my Mom because she’s nice.
My Mom likes to read books.
My Mom is happy when nobody’s fighting when we’re on the Wii.
The funnest thing I ever did with my Mom was go to the Children’s Museum of Memphis.
My Mom is sad when the boys fight.
If I could give my Mom anything, I’d give her a surprise.
The first thing my Mom does when she wakes up is put on her glasses.
I like it when my Mom takes me to the zoo.
My Mom’s favorite food is berries.
My Mom does not like to eat fried eggs.
My Mom works at home.
The color of my Mom’s hair is brown.
My Mom is 13 years old.
My Mom’s shoe size is 50 feet.

I keep on getting younger. In kindergarten when he filled out a similar questionnaire he said I was 19. Must be the clean living.

I like being a Mom. I'm a older Mom than most. That just means I've wanted to be where I am that much longer. I appreciate that I've waited all my life to be a mother of a handful of young children and I'm hanging onto it with all 20 of my nails, because being older, I know how time flies. Each of my boys is such of universe of potential and talent and troubles to surmount. I just hope in the short time we have, we can get it all done!

Your Mother's Day sounds wonderful, Sarah - and you deserve it! I loved this post. Thank you for the tender reminder of what it means to raise these precious children of ours. :)

What an awesome Mothers Day! That one always makes me think of my Grandpa...maybe because every so often I can hear him humming "Sunrise, Sunset" or because he took me to a local production (might have even been through the church) when I was little and I still remember it. I think now I'm going to have to put it on my Netflix for old time sake.

LOVED the visual of Jack being "the kid". There was one in our program, too. He was a riot. I'm sure it didn't help that I was right up front laughing at him. Boys rock!

I am glad you had such a wonderful Mother's Day. You certainly deserve it. I love Tal's talk, he is such a great kid. It would have been great to see the boys sing too. For some reason our ward's primary did not sing. Oh well, Riley would not have gone up anyway. Enjoy!!!

Sounds like a fun Mother's Day. I sometimes play Topol in the OR. Some of our surgeons like musicals. It's funny how I sometimes think 38 year old films are recent too.

Lucky you! We wanted to see Fiddler on the Roof too, but never did. That's awesome you got to go. Sounds like it was amazing!! And Talmage's primary talk sounded so cute!! I loved his sweet answers!

so jealous! That's my favorite movie, too. Love Tal's talk. I am 3 years old, by the way. And when Chloe filled in the blank after "My mom looks pretty ..." she said: when she's dressed. That's not to say that I always look pretty. I'm just only dressed half the time. Glad you had a happy day!

What a great post and you look so beautiful on your date...slim and stunning. Love the hair cut! Clint is looking distinguished with a dusting of silver in his side burns! Why do men look good with that and women look like we are letting things go??? Not fair!
